The Latter Part of the Year

The Latter Part of the Year

The latter part of the year is usually the part where I get very busy.. Last year, it was because I just got started working then I had some projects plus, online marketing clients along the way.

This year is no different. I have a job, and then I tried reviving melvinblog.com by doing some crazy marketing shit on my part. I’m planning on having a product launch late this year. I also planned on doing some really good guides for newbs on how to do things and stuff like that. I sold lots of my web properties just to make sure I’m gonna focus on my blog as my SOLE project. Its also admitting myself that having lots of stuffs and thinking you can do all of them is nothing but a big JOKE. So yeah, melvinblog will take most of my spare time outside work.

On top of that, I have some SEO clients that are gonna be recurring at least up until the end of the year. I’m also being offered a job by my former Marketing boss although I’m still not sure if I’m gonna take it.

Overall, most of the shit have something to do with money and yes, its because I want to be responsible and be prepared for the future. There’s no harm in trying to accumulate as much money as possible, you know. ;-)

Skype Has Stopped Working

Skype Has Stopped Working

Update: Got this help somewhere else in Twitter..Here’s the solution:

RT @RashidShahzad: RT @imTaimur: To fix #Skype, delete shared.xml file from C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Skype Worked for me

Oh yea, seems like Skype has stopped working for  majority of people today. Here’s a screenshot:

So there ya go. Obviously its caused by Microsoft and it fucking sucks especially when you’re in the middle of your work doing something. Thanks to that, I need to go home late and not perform my “medimode”

Looks like Microsoft is now integrating Skype to MSN. :(

Accepting Limitations, then Handling Them Well

Accepting Limitations, then Handling Them Well

Accepting your very own limitations is something that a lot of people think they can do but they won’t admit they’re having difficulties with it. Its such a tricky thing that could easily get someone depressed or whatever.

I, myself is having difficulties accepting not just my own limitations but also the limitations in so many aspects of life. You want to buy a car? ok buy one but… You want to go to this place. Ok, go but… Act as who you are? ok  but prepare to…

Handling them is a completely different thing. I usually easily get depressed and livid when I get to think of those things but the good way to overcome them is to keep yourself busy which is something that I’m very good at (or at least good at pretending). But as soon as you get idle, you’ll end up wasting your time thinking of those things again.

321Meet, Yet Another Online Meeting Solution

321Meet, Yet Another Online Meeting Solution

A friend of mine approached me and obviously pitched me to use 321Meet w/c is yet another online meeting tool. I do a lot of meetings for myself although most of them are done in Skype since I usually just use minimal features (heck, I don’t even call it a “meeting”).

Anyway back to the online meeting product, 321meet.com is a startup (evident with the BETA tag) and there are some unique features that I find interesting especially in the current online meeting market.

  • Completely web-based
  • Simplicity (Host-centric)
  • The best FREE plan available

I’m going to quickly get into each of the points mentioned above. Being completely web-based is an advantage to most people although I know some people still prefer downloadable softwares (not sure why). 321meet is entirely web-based and I haven’t really seen any other online meeting software that’s purely functioning from the web alone.

The second part w/c is simplicity is something that I have really liked about this solution. With 321meet, there aren’t that much buttons so any technophobic/tech-illiterate person can easily not get confused with it. Host centric means that most of the control comes from the host himself. So as an attendee, you don’t really need to do a lot of things.

As far as its FREE plan, well most software have this 14-day trial or whatever number of days it could possibly be. However, this is totally useless. I mean most of their free plans are super limited that in order for you to use it well, you need to switch to a paid plan. I guess that’s really the trend in online meeting software since almost all of them do that. But 321meet’s free plan is something that you can use FOREVER although obviously paid plans have much more superior features than the free one.

321Meet.com is in beta right now and the drawback for it if you’re going to use it is you may encounter some minor bugs since obviously its currently in works. But I don’t know. I think this program is pretty slick and while Webex and Goto probably have much more features, 321Meet’s simplicity is both eye-catching and intriguing. Hopefully they don’t plaster their service with so many ads in the near future.

Some Thoughts on the PBA Finals

Some Thoughts on the PBA Finals

As I was writing this blog post, Talk N Text is one its way on winning the first game of the series. For this blog post, I’d like to share my thoughts on the PBA Philippine Cup Finals Matchup.

TNT vs SMB

Was it a surprise to see these two teams battling it out for the crown? Heck no! Both Talk N Text and San Miguel are underachieving for the past some years because they have THE best lineup in the league. I know the saying that “talent doesn’t win championship” but its more than just the talent for these teams. Its not like each of them have 5 Mac Cardonas and 5 Sol Mercado, we’re talking about a team that’s fully loaded in all angles.

Look, San Miguel has great guards in Cabagnot, Hontiveros, Artadi, Miranda, Yeo, and etc. Then they have J-Wash & Arwind, they have Pena, Seigle and etc. It’s a mixture of good offensive guys and potent defenders. On the other hand, TNT is equally loaded. Guys like Alapag, De Ocampo, Castro, Fonacier and Dillinger can score a bunch of points, then folks like Ryan Reyes, Ali Peek, Kelly Williams, and Harvey Carey can defend like nobody else I”ve ever seen while hustling their butts out. Do you see my point here?

You’re not talking about a talented yet flawed team, you’re talking about two fully loaded squads with a great attitude and great coaching staff. That is possible thanks to teams like Air21 and RedBull who continue to sell their players like crazy. Talking about some dbags out there!

Who will win?

I must admit that its really hard to decide. I’m a big fan of either teams and both of them are really damn good. But I’d go with Talk N Text.  Aside from I like them more than SMB, I think they’ve got some pretty good edges as far as youth and athleticisms are concern. SMB has players like Danny I, Danny S, Pennissi but all of them are like just their corpse. TNT has Kelly Williams, Ranidel and seems like their oldest player is Ali Peek. I know experience counts in this type of battle but seriously TNT can run all day against this SMB squad. Depth-wise, I think no one comes close against TNT. Maybe SMB should trade some of its guards to get some more good players and make it more balanced.

TNT all the way!

Wendy’s Steakhouse Baconator Review

Wendy’s Steakhouse Baconator Review

Last week I went to a mall near us and found out that there’s this new thing called as Steakhouse Baconator from Wendys. Obviously I tried it out thats why I’m writing (and you’re reading) this lame review.

Disclaimer: I’m not a food blogger. This ain’t a  food blog.

Upon seeing the name of this product, I immediately remembered two burgers, one is the Baconator itself and the other one is the steakhouse burger from Burger King. I thought it was a combination of both.

So this steakhouse burger costs like 240PHP for an ala carte meal and 280 for a complete one. Obviously Wendy’s burgers are expensive even though they don’t *really have the best tasting burgers in the world. I ordered one, took it home and here is how it looked like:

So after eating the product, I didn’t really know what made it different from the original Baconator product. Just like the Baconator burgers, it consisted of buns (obviously), two 4oz. beef patties, two slices of American cheese, six strips of bacon and mayo. Oh, I forgot, it also had onion rings in it, some mushrooms,  plus some sort kind of a sweet-tasting bacon sause (like the one in BK’s bacon burgers).

The patties were dry as expected but it was good (it was always good, dick!). The bacon as usual was undercooked. The onion rings were kind of like the unique thing here because I don’t see a lot of fast food establishments do it with their burgers. Anyway, it was altogether a good combination although Wendy’s Fairview don’t really do well with packaging their burgers so it always ends up messy whenever you try to open it.

Overall I found it delicious, really, I’m not kidding! I’m used to burgers that have tomatoes and lettuce and eggplant but having this all meat stuff is good too!

Conclusion

Well, Baconator was never a healthy burger. It has a calorie content of almost a thousand and experts from Yahoo! feel its THE worst burger ever. But I’m young so I can eat it.

Just like the double damn from KFC,, this burger is not advisable to people with heart problems or those who are close to dying.  You get tons of saturated fat, you kill your kidney  with almost 3000 mg of sodium, what more can I say?

But its still a good burger so you can always try it once and then see if you can handle it. I personally love it although I don’t really see it being in Wendy’s menu forever. I mean its even surprising that when you search for “Wendy’s Steakhouse Baconator”, you will not find anything! Maybe this menu is just available here in Philippines (lol).

Chill…
